History
is built on discord, conflict and struggle, but it can be argued
that this is merely the catalyst for our hope, creativity and energy
that ensures our future. And so it is with music, especially jazz;
what often seems like an unrelated, individual statement of disharmony,
with driving instinctive rhythms, disturbing yet infectious, this
music is a shadow of human endeavours, peaking in unified moments
of shared ecstasy, but never still. It is the organic and unconstrained
nature of jazz which is both to celebrate and fear, as we express
through technical, intellectual and emotional languages an impression
of our past along with a projected image of what may lie ahead. |
